Coach Devis Mangia made a sensational debut on the Under-21 bench, as Italy hammered Holland 3-0.
The former Palermo boss took over this summer so that Ciro Ferrara could join Sampdoria and had his first friendly game this afternoon in Leeuwarden.
Several of the Azzurrini stars have been called up by Cesare Prandelli for tonight’s senior test with England, so there were big changes in the side.
It took just 58 seconds for the deadlock to be broken, as Napoli hitman Lorenzo Insigne cut in from the left and curled a right-foot finish into the far bottom corner.
Genoa’s Ciro Immobile followed suit by slaloming through orange shirts and chipping the goalkeeper.
Roma youngster Alessandro Florenzi completed the rout before half-time with a right-foot daisy-cutter from just outside the box.
“I am very happy for the lads,” said Mangia. “We performed the things that we had tested out in training very well.”
Italy’s next Under-21 European Championship qualifier is against Liechtenstein on September 6.
The Azzurrini lead their group on 16 points after five wins and a draw, followed by Turkey on 15 points from eight games.
