Genoa President Enrico Preziosi has finally confirmed the rumours on the Napoli benchwarmer. “We are thinking about Edu Vargas.”
The stories had been circulating for a while and Vargas sped matters up this week by publicly asking for a loan spell if he isn’t going to get much playing time under Walter Mazzarri.
“We are thinking about Edu Vargas. He is an important player who we noticed some time ago,” Preziosi told Sky Sport Italia.
“It seems that he isn’t finding much room at Napoli, so requested a loan move. We are paying close attention to this situation.
“If Napoli were to give him away, then we’d be glad to snap him up.”
The 22-year-old Chilean forward was signed in January for €12m, but struggled to make an impact in his first six months at the San Paolo.
There have been reports that Genoa could prise Vargas away by offering Alberto Gilardino in exchange.
“No, we haven’t spoken to Napoli about that because it would not be do-able. Gilardino is staying with us,” assured the President.
