Vladimir Petkovic is “excited” about making his Serie A debut on the Lazio bench and welcomes imminent new signing Michael Ciani.
The Coach has never worked in Italy’s top flight before and is set to begin that experience away to Atalanta on Sunday. Click here for a match preview.
“I have a different mentality to you,” he told journalists after a dreadful run of pre-season friendly defeats.
“In my view friendlies are tests where you experiment with systems and all the players. We had some positive and some negative results, but now we get serious.
“The team is in good shape and we must focus on imposing our style on the game, but also knowing how to hold out during the moments of difficulty. I am curious to see how we’ll play. I don’t think there will be big changes compared to the Europa League game.
“Everyone seems to predict Lazio will finish outside the European places this season. It’s up to us to prove them wrong. Juventus are Scudetto favourites, followed by Roma and Napoli. We will try to amaze the doubters.
“It’s not Petkovic’s Lazio yet, but it will be soon. I accepted this challenge and once the squad is completed, then we can have our say.”
Lazio this afternoon confirmed they are in advanced negotiations with Bordeaux for centre-back Ciani.
“He is not our player yet, but he is the defender I asked for. He’s very physical and fast, while he has experience and can make the difference.”
