Maxi Lopez returns to San Siro to face former Milan teammates, as the Sampdoria signing admits “I had wanted to stay.”
The Argentine spent the last six months on loan with the Rossoneri, but they did not take up their option to make the move permanent.
He instead returned to Catania, who loaned him out again to newly-promoted Sampdoria.
“I had wanted to stay at Milan because I settled in straight away and made friends with all the lads,” he told Mediaset Premium.
“The Rossoneri family gave me such a warm welcome and it was important for me to remain. Unfortunately, that did not happen.”
Maxi Lopez remains a doubt to play due to a back problem in the game that kicks off at 17.00 UK time. Click here for a match preview.
“I’d love to score a goal, because this is a really special game for me. Besides, scoring is my job. However, if I did net then I wouldn’t celebrate out of respect for the fans.”
The blond hitman managed two goals in 11 appearances for Milan between Serie A, the Coppa Italia and Champions League.
