Roma youngster Nico Lopez could go on loan to Catania - the team he scored a dramatic late equaliser against on Sunday.
The 18-year-old Uruguayan won his new club a point with a brilliant debut goal against the Sicilian side in Sunday’s 2-2 draw at the Stadio Olimpico. That pointed to a promising campaign with the Giallorossi, but today it has emerged that Lopez’s presence in Zdenek Zeman's squad this season is far from certain.
“His future? It depends only on Roma and the decisions of their directors,” agent Oscar Bentancur revealed to Itasportpress.it. “In the next days we will know if Roma want to bet on the boy or find a temporary alternative.”
“Catania are very interested. The Etnei are in pole position but also Siena. If Lopez doesn’t have the full confidence of Zeman, it is very likely he will play on loan at Catania.”
Bentancur believes the former Nacional striker is a special talent.
“Nico is a great attacker, as he has showed in Uruguay and in Italy. The goal on Sunday was beautiful. This is his way of playing. To come onto the pitch at the age of 18 in front of 60,000 fans, and score a goal like that, is something not everyone can do.”
Catania have seen forwards Mirko Antenucci and Takayuki Morimoto return from loans at Torino and Novara respectively, but neither has a strong record in Serie A.
