Italy will have to beat Sweden next month if they are to qualify for the 2013 Under-21 European Championship.
The Azzurrini, now bossed by Devis Mangia, will host their play-off opponents on October 12 before the away leg on October 16.
The Finals will be held in Israel – who qualify as hosts – from June 5-18.
The play-off draw: Spain v Denmark, Italy v Sweden, Czech Republic v Russia, Slovakia v Netherlands, Germany v Switzerland, England v Serbia, France v Norway.
