Alessandro Del Piero has been greeted by a huge mob of Sydney FC fans. “I am here for the start of a new career.”
The former Juventus captain touched down at Sydney International Airport at 10.28am local time and was given the warmest of Aussie welcomes.
Around 500 fans were waiting at the terminal wearing both Sydney and Juventus jerseys, while camera crews transmitted the arrival live on television.
“I am not here for the end of my career,” he said. “I am here for the start of a new career.”
Del Piero penned a two-year contract to become Australia’s highest-paid player and will hold a Press conference on Monday at The Star casino, where he will be staying while he finds a new house.
Next Sunday Sydney FC will host an official welcome party at the Allianz Stadium, where the 37-year-old will be presented with the Number 10 jersey.
