Milan's worst home start in 82 years, historic highs for Lazio, Napoli and Sampdoria as Susy Campanale sums up the stats from Serie A Week 3.
Giuseppe Sannino becomes the first Coach to get the sack this season, which means Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini has been through 50 tacticians in his entire football career. Gian Piero Gasperini is the 18th tactician at the Barbera since Zamparini bought the club in July 2002.
Milan had not lost the first two home games in Serie A since 1930-31, when Juventus and Lazio conquered San Siro. Massimiliano Allegri marked his 150th top flight game, but the 100th professional defeat of his career.
The Rossoneri have failed to score at San Siro this term despite having 40 attempts in two games. Kevin-Prince Boateng alone had 20 shots.
Atalanta had scraped only one point from their previous four away games. The Orobici hadn’t won the Lombardy Derby here since 2008, managing three consecutive losses, and had scored just twice in six visits. Luca Cigarini has scored two of his total 11 Serie A goals past Milan, who are now his favourite targets along with Inter. It was the midfielder’s third goal scored as an opponent at the Stadio Meazza.
Chievo have beaten Lazio at the Bentegodi only once in 2002, losing seven and drawing three. This was the sixth consecutive home defeat to the Aquile. The Flying Donkeys also lost their clean sheet after 535 minutes of football in Verona. Sergio Pellissier’s 82nd Serie A goal was his seventh past Lazio, who are his favourite victims.
Lazio had only once before managed to start a Serie A season with three consecutive victories, under legendary Coach Tommaso Maestrelli in 1974-75. The Biancocelesti notched up seven straight wins in all competition, but have not shared the spoils since a 1-1 at Siena on May 2. Hernanes has scored 22 top flight goals, including four against Chievo, and his only previous brace was against Genoa in 2011. Miroslav Klose has scored 16 goals in 30 Serie A games, three of them past Stefano Sorrentino.
Luca Toni hadn’t scored in a Fiorentina jersey since beating Ascoli 4-0 here on April 7 2007, but took his career total to 102. He has faced Catania three times in the top flight and found the net in each one.
Stevan Jovetic celebrated his 26th Serie A goal, the fourth in three games. Catania’s away win drought stretches back to February 22 in Siena, lasting for six draws and three losses. The Elefantini have never conquered the Stadio Franchi, losing 13 of their 18 official visits.
Juventus are the only side to have been awarded a penalty in each of the three rounds so far.
Genoa’s clean sheet on home turf was ended after 317 minutes of football and for the second time in three rounds they have ended up losing from a winning position. Ciro Immobile got his second Serie A goal. Juventus stretch their unbeaten run to 42 rounds, including 26 victories, thanks to their seventh away win on the bounce.
Emanuele Giaccherini’s ninth Serie A goal was his first since a 2-0 win at Atalanta in January. Mirko Vucinic took his total to 84. Juve have scored in each of their last 14 Serie A matches for a total 38 goals. The last blanks were fired in a 0-0 at Marassi on March 11.
Napoli begin the season with a perfect record for the fourth time, having also achieved this feat in 1953-54, 1966-67 and 1987-88. Walter Mazzarri marked his 300th Serie A match as a Coach with 114 wins, 92 draws and 94 defeats.
Lorenzo Insigne scored his first Serie A goal at the fourth appearance, while Edinson Cavani is on 85 (six of them past Parma) and Goran Pandev 61. Parma player Marco Parolo hadn’t netted since November 2011, taking his career total to seven.
Pescara got their first Serie A goal since May 30 1993, when they demolished Juventus 5-1. Mervan Celik and Gianluca Caprari marked their debut top flight strikes.
Sampdoria had also started a Serie A season with three straight wins in 1956-57, 1982-83 and 2009-10. Maxi Lopez took his career total to 26 goals, his third of the season so far. Marcelo Estigarribia’s only previous Serie A goal was for Juventus against Napoli in November 2011.
Roma have managed only three draws from their last five home League fixtures. However, the Giallorossi have scored in each of their last 24 Olimpico outings in all competition for a total 50 goals.
Alessandro Florenzi had never scored in Serie A before this season, but has now found the net for two games on the trot. Erik Lamela netted his sixth and Alessandro Diamanti the 20th.
Bologna had not conquered Roma in the Capital in Serie A since a 2-1 result in 2004, followed by two losses and three stalemates. Alberto Gilardino broke his Bologna duck with his 148th top flight goals, overtaking Omar Sivori in 25th place for the all-time charts, and his 20th brace. Stefano Pioli had never previously beaten Roma in his career, scraping three points from eight meetings.
Siena are without a home win in five attempts, drawing three, and it is their 100th Serie A stalemate (excluding play-offs). Ze Eduardo got his debut Serie A strike at the 11th appearance, while it was Emanuele Calaio’s 28th.
Udinese have not won at Siena since a 3-2 thriller in 2005, managing only four draws from the next six attempts. Dusan Basta’s sixth top flight goal prepared Antonio Di Natale for his 154th.
Palermo are without a win in 11 rounds between this season and the last, including six defeats. Their last home success was 5-1 against Lazio in February. Cagliari are still without an away victory since taking Catania 1-0 on December 4 2001, registering only nine losses and five draws. The Sardinians have managed two points from six visits to the Barbera since their last Serie A victory here, 3-1 in April 2007.
Marco Sau scored on his Serie A debut, while it was Arevalo Rios’ first top flight goal in Italy.
Diego Milito loves facing Jean-Francois Gillet, having scored five goals in his six games against the Belgian goalkeeper. Giampiero Ventura has never beaten Inter in his long career, losing five of the nine meetings and leaking 25 goals. The Nerazzurri have won their last nine consecutive Serie A visits to Torino, conceding only two goals since a 2-0 Granata victory in February 1994. It ends Toro’s run of eight home wins on the bounce between Serie B and A, as the last side to emerge with the points was Hellas Verona with a 4-1 result on March 12.
