Fiorentina have rejected speculation that they considered making an offer for Villarreal’s Giuseppe Rossi this summer.
“We did not contact him,” director general Daniele Prade told La Nazione newspaper when questioned on the forward.
“You have to take into consideration the fact that we are talking about a player who won’t play again until February at the earliest.”
Rossi was made available for transfer after his club were surprisingly relegated from the Spanish top flight.
The American-born forward was paired with a number of Italian clubs, but his fitness issues halted any move.
In October 2011 he snapped ligaments in his right knee. While trying to regain fitness for Euro 2012, he suffered the same injury again in April.
Rossi, born in 1987, has spent just six months in the Italian top flight during a loan spell at Parma in 2007.
