Vincenzo Montella insists Fiorentina are “not thinking about Juventus” ahead of tomorrow’s Serie A trip to Parma.
The Viola fans are already fired up for next Tuesday’s midweek game, when they welcome arch-rivals Juve to the Stadio Artemio Franchi. Before then, they take on Parma – click here for a match preview.
“Maintaining the right attitude and tension ahead of Juve is the job of a Coach. We’ve got to take it one game at a time, which for me is easy and should also be for the players,” said Montella.
“We need to prove our step up in quality. It’ll be an important test against Parma and I have no doubts we are not thinking about Juventus already. The psychological approach is key, so I want to test the team and myself.”
Fiorentina have won two games and were narrowly beaten 2-1 by Napoli so far this season, so are said by many to be a surprise package for the campaign.
“During the week I said our target was third place, but it was a joke. We have started well, perhaps better than expected.
“We’ve got to grow game by game and that is the objective. Parma are a dangerous, quick and technically gifted side. They have changed in attack from last season, but remain very organised and strong on set plays. They will give us problems.
“I really like their Coach too, as Roberto Donadoni is a man of few words and many actions.”
Luca Toni scored on his comeback for the Tuscans and could well feature again tomorrow.
“I consider Toni a player like the others, without looking at his age. He is improving a great deal, but I don’t know how many minutes he can handle.”
Alberto Aquilani, Francesco Della Rocca and Mounir El Hamdaoui are unavailable due to injury.
