Under-21 Coach Devis Mangia hailed Italy’s all-attack approach to Sweden that saw them qualify for the Euros with a 3-2 victory in Sweden.
The Azzurrini had already won the first leg 1-0 when earning the thrilling result to secure their spot in the 2013 European Under-21 Championships.
“In all honesty, I am also satisfied with the performance, as we came here to play and not close up or protect the first leg result,” Mangia told RAI.
“We only wobbled a bit when 2-0 up and allowed Sweden back into the game, but closed it again, which shows these lads have great character.”
Some had criticised the decision to hand the reins to ex-Palermo Coach Mangia in the summer when Ciro Ferrara left the job to join Sampdoria.
“I am happy to be here. For me, work and what happens on the field has always been the only things that count.
“Is it Mangia’s Under-21 side now? In my eyes it has been since I took over.”
Mangia was drenched with water thrown playfully by his squad during the post-match interview.
