Federico Balzaretti has revealed that he wouldn’t have extended his contract with Palermo had he remained in Sicily.
The Italian international joined Roma in the summer in a €4.5m transfer given that he had less than a year left on his deal with the Rosanero.
“I knew that Palermo would not have renewed my agreement,” the man born in 1981 told Sportweek in an interview.
“That is why I didn’t have any doubts whatsoever when I had the opportunity to join Roma during the summer.”
Balzaretti had always insisted that he would only join Paris Saint-Germain should he quit the Stadio Barbera as his wife works there as a ballerina.
“I’ll go and live in Paris when I retire because both Eleonora and myself will have relatively short careers,” he added.
“I was happy in Palermo though, even if I have always adored ‘my’ Turin.”
Balzaretti played for both Torino and Juventus in his career, as well as Varese, Siena and Fiorentina.
