Genoa President Enrico Preziosi has explained his decision to sack Luigi De Canio and replace him with Gigi Del Neri.
The Rossoblu owner dispensed of De Canio yesterday afternoon, after the Grifone surrendered a two-goal lead at home to Roma on Sunday evening, eventually losing 4-2.
The 64-year-old entrepreneur gave his reasons behind the appointment of Del Neri, and gave his full backing to the former Sampdoria man.
“Del Neri can be the right man for us,” he told a Press conference. “We have already established a respectful relationship, and I believe we have many similarities.
“I tried to get him last year, but for personal reason he decided not to join us.
“I continue to believe that we have a good team that can establish themselves in Serie A.
“The team though, had started to become confused in recent weeks, and it was with that consideration that I decided to change.
“I feel validated by my decision, and in my heart I think it's the right one. De Canio worked well, but maybe I was expecting different things from him.”
