Vincenzo Montella is adamant he “fears Milan” despite their poor form and is concerned all the praise heaped on Fiorentina can be counter-productive.
The Viola go into the Sunday afternoon match at San Siro ahead of their opponents in the table and seven points clear.
“The compliments from Milan have certainly pleased us, even though I am afraid all this praise can hurt the team going into tomorrow’s game,” said Montella at his Press conference.
“Milan have great players and can turn a match from one moment to the next. I am concentrated. We’ll see how the team reacts and if we will be mature enough to deserve the compliments.”
Stevan Jovetic is ruled out by a thigh problem and Alberto Aquilani is likely to start on the bench against his former club.
“Aquilani is not fit for 90 minutes yet and it’s a shame about Jovetic, but we can’t do anything about that.
“Mounir El Hamdaoui is starting to get into shape and has lost a few kilos, so I expect great things from him this season.
“Juan Cuadrado can and must do better, even when attacking. We will be facing a great team, after all.”
Montella also revealed why this trip to San Siro is extra special for him, especially with Mauro Tassotti as assistant manager.
“When I was a little boy I supported Arrigo Sacchi’s Milan, but as a professional I only ever cheered on myself.”
