Lazio President Claudio Lotito believes the Rome derby is “the most passionate local clash in Europe.”
The Serie A leaders take on their arch rivals on Sunday afternoon at the Stadio Olimpico.
“It is always a special game that prompts a great deal of apprehension, emotion, passion and sentiment,” Lotito told Sky Sport Italia.
“The entire city gets involved, plus all the people around the region. It is such a big game, the biggest derby in Italy and possibly the most passionate local clash in Europe.”
In recent years Roma have had the upper hand in terms of Serie A dominance, but this time the Biancocelesti are 10 points in front.
“We haven't considered that – not me, the team or the club. We believe that, aside from the position in the table, what counts is continuing to focus on those values that have taken us to this point.
“With the team spirit, humility, sacrifice, cohesion and that feeling of all working together, the ‘we' rather than the ‘I.' I think this is the fundamental – and new – aspect of Lazio this season.”
