Udinese boss Francesco Guidolin has admitted that the Coppa Italia needs spicing up to increase its popularity.
Speaking on the eve of his side’s encounter against Fiorentina, the tactician argued that the competition needs reviving.
“We need to give some history and tradition to the Italian Cup, one based on the English and French models,” he commented.
“It’s generally snubbed by fans and clubs, at least until we get to the semi-final and Final stages,” he continued.
“We need to add value to it through mechanisms that it is not up to me to decide upon.
“But I don’t think it would be a bad idea to make Serie A an 18-team tournament again and having a Cup round in August.”
