Francesco Guidolin welcomes Fiorentina to the Stadio Friuli and admits he “was upset” when narrowly missing out on the Viola job.
“It’s true, I was upset because it seemed as if the deal was done,” said the Coach. “Then, they chose Cesare Prandelli instead. It was a long time ago and I have no animosity or resentment now. After all, they did well with Prandelli and I had my own path too.”
Udinese are fresh from hammering Inter 3-0 and hope to send Fiorentina to a second consecutive defeat.
“The Viola are not off form. I saw a scintillating side against Pescara for over 50 minutes and they created so many scoring opportunities. We must have the utmost respect for a team that is angry at losing unfairly.”
Former Udinese player David Pizarro is injured, so will not be able to face his old teammates.
“Pizarro is a great midfield maestro, on the same level as Andrea Pirlo,” insisted Guidolin.
“Alberto Aquilani and Giulio Migliaccio have different characteristics. We must try to be organised and fired up for war.
“I don’t know if Luis Muriel and Antonio Di Natale will start together, as we tried out some different things during the week. They can play together, but only if they do certain work for the team.
“Muriel’s return from injury revived the whole squad. We need a player who can act as a cushion between the midfield and attack, performing a dialogue with Di Natale.”
