Walter Mazzarri was glad that Napoli “woke up” after a poor start to crush Palermo and hopes the appeal can cut the five-point gap from Juventus.
“We started the game on the wrong foot and Andrea Dossena very nearly scored, but we woke up and did well to score when we weren’t actually playing that well,” said the Coach after a 3-0 victory.
“The second half was a much more relaxed affair in which we really played as a team. Gian Piero Gasperini is an excellent tactician and knows how we play, so made it difficult for us.”
Napoli are in third place and five points adrift of leaders Juventus, but it would be three if not for the two-point penalty imposed in the betting scandal.
The club has appealed against the penalty as well as six-month bans for Paolo Cannavaro and Gianluca Grava.
“We are the damaged party in this affair and do not deserve that penalty. I hope both points will be restored to us along with Cannavaro and Grava.
“I think that Napoli, Juventus and Lazio are all having fantastic campaigns. Are we the anti-Juve? I am pro-Napoli and anti-nothing.
“We carry on along our path and see what happens in the second half of the season.”
