Massimiliano Allegri commented on Milan’s transfer strategy and why he picks Mbaye Niang ahead of Robinho.
Stephan El Shaarawy scored his first goal in four rounds to secure a 1-0 victory away to Atalanta.
“The team is doing fairly well and this was a good victory in a difficult arena,” said the Coach.
“Atalanta caused us a few problems, but we did well for over an hour and only ran a few risks at the end. We’re a little more organised in the middle and can move the ball better in attack, which means when we play quickly we can do damage.
“The only thing we lacked today was a cool head in front of goal. Now we will work to prepare for the game with Udinese. I am relaxed and wait to see where we’ll be at the end of February, then of course where we are at the end of May. We are growing and cannot say how much this side can improve.”
Milan signed Cristian Zaccardo from Parma this week and are still trying to sign Mario Balotelli and Ricky Kaka.
“The defence is doing better at the moment because the whole team is working to help them. We have kept two consecutive clean sheets on our travels, but at home we conceded two avoidable goals.
“We are building a team of young players with good quality. Zaccardo is a World Cup winner and came here with great hunger to play for us. Even if he is 31, he is the exception that proves the rule.
“I don’t know if Robinho will still be here next season, so for the moment I am choosing Mbaye Niang because he gives me more guarantees.
“Balotelli? I won’t think about him because he is a Manchester City player. If he arrives here, then I’ll consider how to approach him. Obviously, I wouldn't say no... We are setting up a good, disciplined group and that is important in a difficult League like Serie A.”
Allegri was also asked about Juventus raging against the referee after a 1-1 draw with Genoa.
“I didn’t see the second half, as I wasn’t feeling well and fell asleep. At this moment Juve are favourites for the Scudetto. In any case, if you don’t believe the referees are in good faith, then there’s no point having them there.”
