Rolando Maran targets a new Catania record when visiting Napoli this evening. “Of course entering the history books is added motivation.” Click here for a match preview.
The Elefantini are coming off three consecutive victories, something the club had only ever achieved in 1960-61 and 2010-11, but a fourth would be a new club record.
“Of course I am thinking about it,” smiled the Coach. “For us entering the history books is added motivation.
“I also have fond memories of Napoli because I was in charge of Cittadella when playing their debut Serie C1 game. It ended 3-3 and was a spectacular game. I can’t tell you what the San Paolo was like that day. We were accustomed to playing in the third tier and it was like being in Paradise.”
Catania welcome back Francesco Lodi and Gonzalo Bergessio from suspension, but Pablo Alvarez and Lucas Castro are banned.
Lodi had been given a three-match ban for a reaction foul on Torino’s Riccardo Meggiorini, slapping him in the back of the head.
“Having confirmed all our top stars after the January transfer window was the same as signing a great player. The club was consistent with what it had always said, that we are building and not going to weaken the team.
“Our objective right now is to continue amazing people. The seasonal target remains safety. We are close, but mustn’t say we’re safe until there is mathematical certainty. To trouble Napoli, we need a spirit of sacrifice and courage. We are seeking something extraordinary.
“We face Napoli during their best period of form, as they are fired up, close to the top of the table and with great enthusiasm. I think they are the main antagonists to Juventus for the Scudetto, but I said that a long time ago,” added Maran.
