Italy boss Cesare Prandelli is set to field a 4-3-3 formation in Wednesday’s international friendly against Holland.
Prandelli has used a variety of systems during his reign, but is set to again try a trident attack in order to get the best out of Milan’s wide left attacker Stephan El Shaarawy.
The tactician will use today’s training sessions to decide on his starting XI, but there are already indications of which players he will pick.
The Azzurri are being tipped to start with a defence made up of Ignazio Abate, Andrea Barzagli, Andrea Ranocchia [or Davide Astori] and Davide Santon with Gigi Buffon in goal.
Roma’s Daniele De Rossi will be in a midfield three alongside Juventus playmaker Andrea Pirlo and Milan’s Riccardo Montolivo.
Lazio’s Antonio Candreva, who has recovered from a cold, will be used wide right in an attack consisting of new Milan teammates El Shaarawy and Mario Balotelli.
Italy possible: Buffon; Abate, Barzagli, Ranocchia, Santon; De Rossi, Pirlo, Montolivo, Candreva, Balotelli, El Shaarawy.
