Roma idol Giuseppe Giannini thinks he should have been considered as a replacement for Zdenek Zeman.
The latter was axed last week and the club have subsequently opted to appoint assistant Aurelio Andreazzoli, who has been at the club since 2005, in his place. He’ll be aided by Roberto Muzzi.
“I’m disappointed,” Giannini told Centro Suono Sport. “It seems that the less you have to do with the history of Roma, the more you are considered.
“With all due respect for the likes of Muzzi and Christian Panucci , why is my name never taken into account? I just want one reason.
“I have experiences that I don’t think Muzzi and Andreazzoli have…”
Former captain Giannini, now 48, spent 15 years as a player with the club after graduating through the youth system.
His managerial career has consisted of spells at clubs such as Foggia, Gallipoli, Verona and Grosseto.
“I would play with a three-man defence,” the former Italian international said when asked how he’d line-up this Roma side.
“In midfield I’d have Daniele De Rossi and Miralem Pjanic in the middle, with Alessandro Florenzi on the right, Dodo or Federico Balzaretti on the left. Up front, I’d leave the three that are there already.
“It wouldn’t have been easy, but I would have worked on a 3-4-3. Maybe I would have even put De Rossi in defence.
“I’m at a good level, I would have worked for free.”
