Adriano Galliani says he’s delighted by Milan’s efforts in Serie A this season after their summer of mass changes.
The Diavolo waved goodbye to a host of their veteran players, as well as opting to sell Thiago Silva and Zlatan Ibrahimovic to Paris Saint-Germain to create a younger and cheaper squad.
Although the Rossoneri had a problematic start to the campaign, they are now just three points behind third-placed Lazio following a results revival.
“I think we’re having a great season,” the Vice-President stated on Wednesday afternoon.
“Things could have gone a whole lot worse after completely changing the squad with 12 new players. Instead, I’m proud with what the club are doing.
“The two defeats at the start of the season against Atalanta and Sampdoria weighed us down. But if you look at the results of the last 16 games we’ve totalled 34 points which means we’d be top ahead of Juventus.”
Milan lost five of their first eight League games, but they’ve only lost one of their last 12 in the top-flight despite a lack of experience in their side.
“I look at the positives,” Galliani noted. “We’re a young team and we finished the Cagliari game with one player born in ’94, two in 1992 and two from 1990.”
Milan lowered the average age of their side even further in January with the capture of Mario Balotelli, but there are doubts about his partnership with Stephan El Shaarawy.
“There is no incompatibility. One is a central striker and one a wide attacker.
“El Shaarawy needs to catch his breath, as is only normal. Balotelli, meanwhile, is a star and it is to everyone’s advantage that he is now back in Italy.”
Galliani was also asked about Juventus’ Champions League exploits in Scotland on Tuesday evening.
“Juventus did well in the Champions League against Celtic. I think they can get to the Final. A repeat of the one against us in Manchester? Let’s hope so, seeing as it will be in England (Wembley)…
“We have to just think about Barcelona though as they are the strongest in the world.”
