Lega Pro side Cremonese are attempting to sign Italian 2006 World Cup winner Simone Barone.
The midfielder, still only 32, is sensationally without a club just five years after winning international football's ultimate prize.
Barone is a free agent which means he can sign for any club outside of the transfer window.
Released by Cagliari in the summer just 12 months into a three-year contract, Barone hasn't been picked up by any other club.
The former Torino and Palermo player has been training with local amateur sides in the Parma area for the last eight months in a bid to maintain his fitness.
