Roma have failed in their efforts to overturn Philippe Mexes' ban from playing Saturday's Derby del Sole against Napoli.
The France international was given a two-match suspension after insulting the fourth official following Roma's game against Brescia on February 2.
He has already served one match, missing Roma's 5-3 defeat to Inter last Sunday, but had hoped to be available again for this weekend's contest with Napoli.
Roma have an emergency in defence as Nicolas Burdisso is also suspended.
Reports in Italy suggest Daniele De Rossi might even be asked to deputise for the pair rather than use the error prone Simone Loria.
