Walter Mazzarri feels it is “only normal a superpower like Milan is getting closer,” as Napoli take on Chievo to keep hold of second place.
The Partenopei are six points adrift of leaders Juventus, but after last night’s result only two points clear of third-placed Milan.
“I am focused only on tomorrow’s game with Chievo, then at the end of the season everyone can look at the final table,” said the Coach in his Press conference. Click here for a match preview.
“It is only normal that a superpower like Milan is getting closer, but the fact we’re still in front is a sign of what an extraordinary campaign Napoli have had. We’ll fight to the end and hope to finish as high up the standings as possible.
“Every game is a Final from here on in, starting with Chievo. We must continue along our path, trying to win every match. Chievo are to be feared, even if recently they have had a negative period.
“They will no doubt sit back and try to hit us on the break, as they did against Juventus. It’s also a sign that when Napoli attack, we scare other teams. They are very worrying when they go on the counter-attack.”
Napoli have been stuttering recently with five consecutive stalemates and Edinson Cavani’s goal drought drags on, though he is celebrating yesterday’s birth of son Lucas.
“In the last 10 games we have earned five victories and five draws in difficult arenas like Lazio and Fiorentina. We have an average of two points per game, which is excellent for Napoli,” continued Mazzarri.
“I saw Cavani in good shape, just as he was against Juventus. He is doing everything right and only missing a goal, so I hope he continues to play for the team and help us bring home the result. Similarly, Goran Pandev hasn’t scored for five months, but he is often decisive in the way the team plays. I am happy with his performance.”
