Gennaro Gattuso admits he felt “emotional” as he returned to San Siro as player-manager of Sion FC for today’s friendly with Milan, but is in no rush to come back permanently.
The Swiss outfit were beaten 6-0 in front of around 4,000 people, a huge number for a midweek friendly when many players are away on international duty.
“How can you not get emotional at returning here?” the former Rossoneri hero told Milan Channel.
“It was a great day and wonderful sensations. I really enjoy this type of work, as the way I spent my life in football terms it was a natural transition from player to player-manager.
“It feels like years ago looking at how Milan are now, but instead it was only a few months. This is a quality side that has real prospects.”
Gattuso confessed he was particularly moved by the chants from his old fans at San Siro.
“I felt like I was a Milan player again. It sounded like the chant that comes after an important victory.”
Pippo Inzaghi has already begun his management career in the Milan youth academy and is being tipped for a future on the main bench, so could Gattuso return to the club too?
“It would mean I’d done my job well, but it is utopia right now to think of coming to Milan as a Coach. I have to work a lot to get there, but I am ready to do it.”
