Cesare Prandelli could decide to field an Italian starting XI against Malta made up solely of players from Juventus and Milan.
After playing with the idea of a 4-3-3, the tactician tested out a 4-3-1-2 system at Coverciano this morning ahead of tomorrow’s World Cup qualifier.
There were six players from Juventus and five from Milan in the line-up that the former Fiorentina boss fielded.
The middle of the defence was Juventino with goalkeeper Gigi Buffon guarded by Andrea Barzagli and Leonardo Bonucci. Milan’s Ignazio Abate and Mattia De Sciglio were the full-backs.
Milan’s Riccardo Montolivo was placed alongside Juve’s Andrea Pirlo and Claudio Marchisio, with the Old Lady’s Emanuele Giaccherini fielded ahead of them.
The Diavolo duo of Mario Balotelli and Stephan El Shaarawy were used in attack.
Italy possible XI: Buffon; Abate, Barzagli, Bonucci, De Sciglio; Marchisio, Pirlo, Montolivo; Giaccherini; Balotelli, El Shaarawy.
