Fiorentina midfielder Riccardo Montolivo has travelled to Amsterdam ahead of an operation on his ankle tomorrow afternoon.
The Viola's captain has been playing through the pain barrier since the World Cup and had hoped to last until the winter break.
However, it appears the condition of his ankle has deteriorated and needs corrective surgery immediately.
Professor Van Dijk is due to carry out the operation, which should keep Montolivo out of action for around two months.
