Hernanes says he would sacrifice qualification for the Champions League if it meant that Lazio collected silverware this term.
“If I had to choose between third place in Serie A and winning the Europa League then I’d opt for lifting a trophy,” the Brazilian told La Lazio Siamo Noi.
The Bianconcelesti have had a roller coaster campaign to date. Although they have reached the Coppa Italia Final and will face Fenerbahce in the last eight of the Europa League, they are struggling at home.
The capital club were a serious contender for third, but they are now seven points adrift of that position after picking up just one win and two draws from their last nine games.
“We have a complicated period ahead of us,” the midfielder continued. “It will be difficult and tough. We have to get back to winning ways in the championship.
“Now we have to just take each game as it comes.”
Lazio face Catania this weekend before Serie A matches against city rivals Roma and then League leaders Juventus.
