Fabio Cannavaro’s testimonial risks being put back to September or cancelled altogether after problems emerged at the San Paolo.
The World Cup and Ballon d’Or winner was hoping to say goodbye to the fans on May 5 with one last game in his home stadium.
All the proceeds from the match will go to the reconstruction of the Science City project.
However, Cannavaro told news agency ANSA that Napoli are unlikely to allow use of the stadium because it needs emergency work to pass UEFA tests.
“If they really don’t want to change their minds, then at least give us the stadium for September 2,” added the former Napoli, Juventus, Inter and Real Madrid defender.
