Walter Mazzarri warns it will take “the perfect performance” for Napoli to beat Inter on Sunday evening and hints at their transfer targets.
The Partenopei practically have second place under lock and key, so welcome the Nerazzurri tomorrow night to continue their march. Click here for a match preview.
“Tomorrow, whatever happens, I don’t think we will be mathematically certain of Champions League qualification,” said Mazzarri in his Press conference.
“The goal difference gives us an advantage, but if Milan were to catch us on points then the situation could change. We mustn’t think about this now, nor look at what the other teams are doing.
“The lads have grown over the course of the campaign, as everyone feels important and I doubt the squad is thinking back to our defeat at San Siro in December.
“If you look back at our wins over Atalanta and Cagliari, you’ll see we struggled to get all three points. Inter have more important players compared to these teams and face this type of game with their blood boiling. We need, as always, the perfect performance.”
The Coach again refused to discuss his future, but took a sideswipe at the constant media speculation.
“I am discussing many things with director Riccardo Bigon and if President Aurelio De Laurentiis arrives then I’ll talk to him too, but I want to evaluate the situation only when the season is over. I will start thinking of what to do, then at the end of the year, after the final game with Roma, you will know what I’ll do.
“After five wins and a draw the media want me to guarantee the Napoli project in future. Before that run it was the opposite, but I am indifferent to it as I know how the game works now. When you win, the Coach is talented, when you lose it’s all his fault.”
There are reports Edinson Cavani could be sold this summer to bring in Edin Dzeko from Manchester City or Pablo Daniel Osvaldo from Roma.
“They are players of the highest level, but I will just say the pitch tells us that. It doesn’t require a scientist to know they are talented.”
