President of the Italian Professional Footballers' Assocation [AIC] Damiano Tommasi has insisted that racism has no place in the game.
Roma were fined €50,000 after a section of their support was heard racially abusing Milan players during their 0-0 draw on Sunday.
And the former Giallorossi midfielder has claimed that in 2013, there should be no issue with the colour of someone's skin.
“We all agreed when Milan came off the field [against Pro Patria in January], but that was a friendly match,” he told reporters.
“In official matches it should not be the captain of a team or the referee to make a decision to exit the field.
“The public have a responsibility. Speaking about someone's skin colour in 2013 is wrong – it gives me the creeps.
“Unfortunately, some fans do things in stadiums that they wouldn't do otherwise.
“We have to make it clear that you cannot do that sort of thing in a stadium.”
