Sampdoria have revealed that they have held just one round of talks with Milan to discuss a transfer for Andrea Poli.
The Diavolo are in pole position to net the Italian international, but no deal has yet been done with the Marassi outfit.
“The situation is on stand-by because Milan were dealing with the Massimiliano Allegri matter,” Samp sporting director Carlo Osti told Primo Canale Sport.
“I think that Poli is of great interest to Milan, but, right now, they are not in a position to close the deal.
“We’ve only sat down around a table once with the Rossoneri…”
Poli will sell the 23-year-old this summer given his current contract situation at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.
“I’d like to keep Poli, but his contract expires in 2014 and he doesn’t want to extend it,” the official continued.
“He’s waiting to see whether it is possible for him to make the leap to a big club. I can’t do anything against such ambitions.”
If Doria don’t sell the €6m rated player then Poli could leave next summer on a free transfer.
