Riccardo Montolivo says he is in no position to offer international teammate Daniele De Rossi advice about his future.
The Roma symbol is being linked with a move away from his hometown club after a problematic season in the capital.
“I won’t permit myself to give him advice,” the midfielder, who left Fiorentina for Milan last summer, commented.
“I don’t know about the situation in Rome or about the atmosphere in the Giallorosso changing room.
“All I can say is that Daniele is and remains one of the strongest midfielders in the world. He’s been his normal self over the last few days on international duty.
“Is he in a similar situation to mine last year? No, not really, seeing as I was at the end of my contract with Fiorentina.”
De Rossi, 29, is on a €6m salary – after tax – at the Stadio Olimpico until the summer of 2017.
While De Rossi has had his issues with La Magica, Montolivo has impressed in his first campaign at San Siro.
“I don’t know if it was the best season of my campaign. I’ve improved as a playmaker, but the objective is always to get better.”
