Napoli made a €40m bid to sign Erik Lamela and Marquinhos from Roma, claims President Aurelio De Laurentiis.
“I contacted Unicredit directly for Lamela and Marquinhos,” the Stadio San Paolo chief stated to Radio Marte. “I offered them €40m.
“Instead, they offered me the services of Pablo Daniel Osvaldo at all costs, but, seeing as we have Edinson Cavani right now, we don’t need him.
“However, at this moment in time, I’m no longer convinced by Lamela and Marquinhos. I’ve noted that there are other strong players around who are cheaper.”
The two South Americans have caught the eye this season in the Italian capital despite their club’s problems.
Marquinhos is a 19-year-old centre-back who has also been paired with Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona.
Lamela, meanwhile, is an Argentine attacker, 21, who scored 15 goals in 33 League games in the past campaign.
Unicredit are an Italian bank who still own a share of the Italian capital club.
