Riccardo Saponara had been “dreaming of this goal” after scoring in Italy’s Under-21 4-0 demolition of Israel.
The Azzurrini booked their spot in the European Championship semi-final with last night’s comfortable victory.
“The whole team played well, as we are a great team and we know how to prove that on the pitch. If we keep playing like this, then we can go far,” he told Rai Sport.
Saponara, who has already completed a transfer from Empoli to Milan this summer, opened the scoring.
“I thank the Coach and my teammates, as I had been dreaming of this goal. I worked hard and it arrived thanks to a marvellous team move.
“We’re qualified now and we have to focus on Norway, then on to the semi-final.”
Italy will play one of Spain, Germany, Holland or Russia in the next round.
