Serse Cosmi admits that he was waiting for an opportunity to boss a club like Palermo for some time.
Cosmi was officially named as the new Rosanero boss this evening after Delio Rossi was sacked in the aftermath of the 7-0 drubbing by Udinese.
"I'm proud to face such an important adventure," he told the outfit's website. "I'll work for a prestigious club in an extraordinary city.
"I've wanted this opportunity for some time. This job is like a liberation for me, I'm extremely happy."
Cosmi began his Serie A career at Perugia in 2000 after impressing in the Third Division with little Arezzo.
He's since bossed clubs such as Genoa, Udinese, Brescia and Livorno but with little success.
His last stint in the top flight was with Livorno when he was hired in October 2009, but he didn't see out the season.
Cosmi will be unveiled to the media on late Tuesday afternoon in Rome.
