Relegated Palermo have admitted club captain Fabrizio Miccoli has played his last game for the outfit.
The almost 34-year-old will be out of contract at the end of this month and no renewal will be signed by the forward.
“Miccoli hasn’t been a Palermo player since the end of the season,” President Maurizio Zamparini told Sky Sport Italia.
“I hope that he is able to find a Serie A club because that is the championship that he deserves to play in.”
New boss Gennaro Gattuso, presented to the media today , confirmed that a decision about his former international teammate had already been made.
“I spoke with Miccoli a few days ago,” Gattuso commented. “But I then spoke to the club who told me that they would not be renewing his contract.
“I would have had no problem with him, he has made history for this club, but we have to think about the future and the players at our disposal.”
Miccoli, formerly of Ternana, Perugia, Juventus, Fiorentina and Benfica, joined the Stadio Barbera outfit in 2007. He scored 74 goals in 165 League games.
