A deal seemed to be done , but this morning the exchange between Alberto Gilardino and Marco Borriello collapsed.
Genoa had been ready to hand over Gilardino to Roma in exchange for full ownership of Borriello and a cash sum.
However, today’s crunch meeting between the clubs hit a brick wall, so both Sky Sport Italia and La Gazzetta dello Sport claim the move is off.
Gilardino is still owned by Genoa, even though he spent last season on loan at Bologna.
Borriello played for Genoa on loan last term, but is not thought to have a future at Roma.
