Massimo Moratti has indicated that Erick Thohir’s takeover of Inter isn’t a certainty, but that the club signing a ‘top player’ could happen.
The President has been in continued talks with Indonesian businessman Thohir over his intention to invest in the Nerazzurri in exchange for percentage shares in the club, thought to be ranging from 40 per cent ownership to 100 per cent ownership.
However, when asked for the latest on the subject, the Nerazzurri’s current owner looked to temper expectation.
“Maybe someday, but not now,” Moratti commented to reporters.
“Many are expecting this sale as if it were the knockout, but it is not. Deadlines keep being put in place, but they are exceeded by the situation.
“For the moment, I know him as a respectable person who comes from a family of important industrialists, but nothing more than that. Personally I don’t know him well, not well enough.
“And then I have to say that we’re having these discussions, but honestly if it’s not the first round then it’s the second.
“The intention is to deal and figure out if we understand each other.
“An Inter without me? Maybe one day, for the moment I see no alternative.”
The President turned his attention to on-the-field preparations for the new season, which are under a new Coach in Walter Mazzarri.
“We signed Mazzarri because he has character, hunger and intensity and I think this might have an effect on the players.
“They wanted more intensity in training and in the project. Mazzarri works very hard. And he's good at it too because he achieves excellent results through hard work.”
An indication was also given that the club may continue to be active in the transfer market.
“A top player could arrive here, but it depends on the first days of Mazzarri. We're only at the start of July, there's plenty of time between now and the end of August.
“The most interesting deals often come about towards the end of the market.
“Anyone leaving? They're all not for sale because I want Mazzarri to take a good look at them first and figure out what works best for him.
“Isla? Relations with Juventus are good, we’ll see if he will come. Also, much has been said of Nainggolan, but there is little in it.”
“He and Belfodil were the two forwards that we wanted, and we have signed them.”
