Mauro Icardi has revealed why he declined numerous offers in order to join Inter from Sampdoria.
The Argentine was a wanted man on the transfer market after catching the eye at Marassi last season.
“I chose Inter because it's a great club in which I can continue to develop,” the 20-year-old said at his official presentation.
“There were rumours flying around all over the place, Napoli came close towards the end of the window in January, but I chose Inter. I'm here and want to do well.
“I made the breakthrough at Sampdoria after two years in the Primavera and now I'm here to take the next step.
“I think I'm still young and I can improve a lot over the years and that process starts now. In terms of my technique, the tactical side, my movement... everything.”
Icardi also admitted that he spoke to club captain Javier Zanetti ahead of completing his move to San Siro.
“He told me he would be waiting for me. I think after Diego Maradona and Lionel Messi that he's the greatest ever Argentine player – and everyone knows it.”
Icardi got his chance at Doria last term following an injury to Maxi Lopez and he could be asked to initially replace the injured Diego Milito in Nerazzurro.
“We all know Milito's a great player, but when I get my chance I'll always help my teammates and the side to the best of my ability,” added the ex-Barcelona player.
“It's a huge responsibility for me but also a great opportunity to be here and try to do well.
“Being here is a dream come true, obviously I also dream of winning a lot with this team, but for now I'm just focused on the here and now.”
