New Parma defender Pedro Mendes is happy to follow the footsteps of his “football idols” Fabio Cannavaro and Fernando Couto.
The 22-year-old Portuguese talent arrived at the Stadio Tardini earlier this month on a free transfer from Sporting Lisbon B.
“I am having a wonderful experience here, as I’d been following Italian football for some time,” he said in his presentation.
“As a kid I was swept up by Parma’s performances when they had my fellow countryman Fernando Couto and my football idol Fabio Cannavaro.
“This is why wearing the Crociati jersey is doubly satisfying. Who are my more recent idols? Thiago Silva and David Luiz.
“I really like that type of centre-back who can make his physical presence felt while still playing the ball.”
