Esteban Cambiasso jokingly called ex-Inter players “enemies” and refused to make promises on their new season.
The midfielder spoke to newspaper Libero on starting another era under Walter Mazzarri.
“The Coach is very hungry for success, as we all are, so that is very important. I don’t like talking about tacticians, as if you say something nice then people think you’re trying to make a good impression, while criticism creates chaos.
“The most important thing is that the squad is able to assimilate all his tactical ideas so we can understand each other. We need clear ideas and for everyone to be working in the same direction. Mazzarri achieved that elsewhere and now we hope he can do it at Inter too.”
Some former Nerazzurri stars have returned to Serie A from the Premier League, such as Mario Balotelli at Milan and Douglas Maicon at Roma.
“Off the field they can remain our friends, while on the pitch they are our enemies,” shrugged Cambiasso.
“The Scudetto? There’s no point making proclamations now, as the only thing I can say is that we’ll try to give our all. We cannot promise anything.”
President Massimo Moratti is in advanced negotiations with Indonesian magnate Erick Thohir to sell part or even all of the club.
“Moratti has always been here since I arrived, so it would certainly be difficult for us to do without him. That’s not just because Massimo is the President now, but also what his family has always meant for the club. It would certainly be strange to see Inter without him.”
Cambiasso’s contract is set to expire in June 2014, but the 32-year-old has no question marks over his future.
“The club has other priorities right now, so we haven’t discussed it yet. They know that there will be no problem with me. We’ll see the length of the new contract when we sit down to talk.
“Could I be a Coach here in future? That’s too far away – there is more than enough to focus on now.”
