Italy striker Alberto Gilardino is confident Genoa will turn his World Cup 2014 dream into reality.
Gilardino, now back with the port club, was recalled to the national squad last term during a successful loan spell at Bologna.
“I hope to win a place at World Cup 2014 by performing well in the Genoa jersey,” the forward commented after arriving in Genoa for his pre-season medical.
“I have a massive desire to start the new campaign and I thank new boss Fabio Liverani for his recent nice words about me.”
Gilardino, born in 1982, moved to Genoa in January 2012 from Genoa, but he only scored four goals in 14 games before moving to the Dall’Ara.
The former Milan and Parma man netted 13 in 36 League games for the Rossoblu last term.
A World Cup winner in 2006, Gilardino has scored 18 goals in 55 caps for the Azzurri.
