Sassuolo defender Francesco Acerbi says he will be “on the field in a few weeks” after emergency surgery to remove a tumour.
The 25-year-old former Chievo, Genoa and Milan man was sent to hospital after a routine medical with his new club found anomalies in his blood tests.
He then had emergency surgery to remove a testicular tumour and is now awaiting further tests, but was at the Mapei Stadium for tonight’s Trofeo TIM between Sassuolo, Milan and Juventus.
“I am here to be with the team,” he told Mediaset. “It was a bolt from the blue, but it is behind me now and I am happy that I’ll be on the field in a few weeks.
“I go forward with a smile. When certain things happen you go back over everything in your mind. You go through the past and the present, thinking what you really want in life.
“I want to be a protagonist again in my career, the way I was two years ago. I will give 100 per cent on the pitch to prove my worth.”
