Fiorentina President Andrea Della Valle confirmed Vincenzo Montella’s contract renewal and aimed a sideswipe at Milan.
On Tuesday evening the Viola squad was presented to fans at the Stadio Artemio Franchi with a party atmosphere just two days ahead of the Europa League play-off with Grasshopper.
“We had to let our new players understand what Florence is really like, so it was right to go for a presentation in this style. We will try to entertain you all the same way we did last year,” said ADV.
“This evening there is a European game that Fiorentina should’ve been playing in, but we are also happy to play on Thursday.”
He was referring to Milan’s Champions League qualifier against PSV Eindhoven, as Fiorentina narrowly missed out on third place in Serie A last season.
“I also have some news for you,” Della Valle told fans. “The Coach has renewed his contract today in our headquarters and will stay with us for many years.”
Montella also took the microphone to speak with the Viola fans in the stadium.
“Today we made it official, but I had already agreed my renewal with the club two weeks ago. I thank the fans for their enthusiasm.
“We mustn’t rest on our laurels, because this year will be very tough.”
