There are strong reports Catania have agreed to sell Pablo Barrientos to Qatar-based club Al-Jaish for €6m.
It is a surprise switch, as the attacking midfielder was included in the squad for tonight’s Serie A game against Inter.
According to the Gazzetta dello Sport and media in Sicily, the deal has been struck and Barrientos is already packing his bags.
It’s claimed he has called his close friends in the city to say goodbye and left the Torre del Grifo training camp, though there is as yet no official word on the matter.
It means he is unlikely to be in the line-up against Inter, a tie that kicks off at 19.45 UK time.
The 28-year-old Argentine had been with the Elefantini for four years.
