Napoli’s Andrea Dossena could become a Sunderland player by the end of the day after his move to Torino collapsed.
The left-back had agreed a one-year deal with Toro, only to fail his medical because of a thigh problem.
However, the 31-year-old is now flying to England and could become the latest signing for Italian manager Paolo Di Canio.
Dossena, who has played for Italy, Liverpool and Udinese in the past, spent the last six months of 2012-13 with relegated Palermo.
