Alberto Zaccheroni congratulated Italy on reaching the World Cup, but wouldn’t answer questions on replacing Cesare Prandelli.
Italy and Holland became the first European nations to qualify for the 2014 tournament in Brazil, though Zac’s Japan had already booked their ticket.
“We’ll see each other in Brazil. Congratulations,” smiled the former Inter, Milan and Juventus boss to ANSA news agency.
“Prandelli did great work and so did the players, as they followed his instructions.”
Zaccheroni has been suggested as one of the replacements for Prandelli on the Italy bench if he walks away after the tournament.
“I am just focusing on taking Japan to the World Cup,” he responded.
